The LabPlant SD-Basic Bench Top Spray Dryer

The LabPlant model SD-Basic bench top laboratory spray dryer is used to produce a free flowing powder sample from a small quantity of aqueous-based sample liquid. It is an economical alternative to the LabPlant SD06A, and it can be used for a wide range of applications where the production of small amounts of free flowing powder is required. The SD-Basic benifits from of 30 years of continuous development in spray drying technology.

The built-in peristaltic pump feeds the solution to the stainless steel atomizing jet in the spray-drying chamber. An integral fan forces filtered, heated air through the main chamber thereby evaporating the liquid content of the solution. The resulting free-flowing solids are separated in a cyclone and collected in the sample collection bottle.

The unit contains all of the required glassware and is ready for immediate operation, requiring only a single-phase electrical connection, an exhaust outlet for the evaporated moisture and a source of compressed air. All mechanical and electrical components are housed in a chemically resistant painted steel enclosure, which would be mounted on a laboratory bench top.

The SD-Basic uses a built-in control panel at the front of the cabinet to select and display the inlet and exhaust air temperature, airflow, deblocking and pump speed. The system is easy to use and is designed so that all functions are simple to select and adjust to ensure that optimum conditions for spray drying are quickly achieved.

Periodic unclogging of the atomizing jet may be necessary, so the unit includes a pneumatic deblocking device for unclogging the atomizing jet. The deblocker is manually actuated by a switch on the control panel.

The LabPlant model SD-Basic is suitable for aqueous solutions only. The SD-Basic can be supplied with an integral gas shield (in the SD Basic AG configuration) to makes it suitable for solvent-based solutions.
