The LabPlant SD-06a laboratory spray dryer for aqueous liquids

The LabPlant model SD-06A bench top laboratory spray dryer is used to produce a free flowing powder sample from a small quantity of aqueous sample liquid. It can be used for a wide range of applications where the production of small amounts of free flowing powder is required. The SD06A benefits´╗┐ from of 30 years of continuous development in spray drying technology.

The built-in peristaltic pump feeds the solution to the stainless steel atomizing jet in the spray-drying chamber. The integral fan forces filtered, heated air through the main chamber thereby evaporating the liquid content of the solution. The resulting free-flowing solids are separated in a cyclone and collected in the sample collection bottle.

The unit is self-contained and is ready for immediate operation, requiring only a single-phase electrical connection and an exhaust outlet for the evaporated moisture. All major components are housed in a stainless steel cabinet, which can be mounted on a laboratory bench top or the optional stainless steel stand.

The menu-driven HMI controller is used to select and display the inlet and exhaust air temperature, airflow, deblocker frequency and pump speed. The microprocessor-based controller allows for remote control and monitoring of all functions, printing of results and includes a provision connection to a PC or data logger. The software is designed so that all functions are simple to select and adjust to ensure that optimum conditions for spray drying are quickly achieved.

Periodic unclogging of the atomizing jet may be necessary, so the unit includes a pneumatic deblocking device which unclogs the atomizing jet. The deblocker interval is controlled by the HMI with user selectable intervals of 1, 4 and 9 seconds.

The LabPlant model SD-06A is suitable for aqueous solutions only, while the SD-06AG, with an integral inert gas shield, makes it suitable for both aqueous and solvent-based solutions.
